Which VW mechanic is worth $100,000?
VW has hired a group of automotive engineers to help it develop new technology that will allow the company to better control its emissions.
The team, comprised of engineers from VW’s engineering unit, has been tasked with developing software that can better understand the way vehicles behave in various conditions and the amount of pollution that would result if they continued to operate at their current level.
It will be developed to address the challenges posed by the company’s upcoming diesel engines, which the automaker said it plans to launch in 2021.
While it’s difficult to gauge how much this team will be able to improve upon the software, VW is expected to introduce new technologies in the coming years.
In a press release announcing the hiring, VW CEO Martin Winterkorn said the company had already started developing new technologies to make its vehicles more environmentally friendly.
“We want to be the first to take advantage of all the information and technology available to us in order to make our cars more energy efficient,” he said.
“We want our customers to enjoy the driving experience as much as possible.
We also want to protect our environment and we want our partners to feel proud to be part of the Volkswagen family.”
The company says it expects the new software to be ready for public testing in 2021 and will launch it publicly in 2019.
